COMMUNITY COLLABORATION CREATIVITY
Tucson Rock Camp was founded in 2022 as an extension of The Multivrs Is Illuminated. Our festival, which began in 2017 as The Universe Is Lit: A Bay Area Black and Brown Punk Festival, has evolved into the vibrant 143rd Dimension Festival, now celebrating its 7th year. We have expanded our vision to spotlight DIY artists across a wide range of genres and diasporas.
Inspired by their role as Co-Executive Director of Bay Area Girls Rock Camp, our founder Shawna Scroggins launched Tucson Rock Camp after the Multivrs Is Illuminated achieved non-profit status in 2022. Their vision was to broaden the benefits of Girls Rock Camp to students of all genders, with a firm belief in the unifying power of music and the importance of inclusive spaces rooted in equity across identities.
Our inaugural summer camp session, hosted by Groundworks, featured 23 campers, 5 peer mentors, and approximately 8 volunteers. We are excited to announce that in 2024, our enrollment nearly doubled, reflecting our growing impact. We look forward to continuing our expansion and providing even more resources to support young people in music.
