history of tucson rock camp

Inspired by their role as Co-Executive Director of Bay Area Girls Rock Camp, our founder Shawna Scroggins launched Tucson Rock Camp in 2022. Their vision was to create a music program for students of all genders, with a firm belief in the unifying power of music and the importance of inclusive spaces rooted in equity across identities. At Tucson Rock Camp, music is a vehicle for building unity, collaboration, and confidence.

Our inaugural summer camp, hosted by Groundworks in 2022, featured 23 campers, 5 peer mentors, and approximately 8 volunteers.  The number of teaching artists, community partnerships and students has grown each year. We look forward to continuing our expansion and providing even more resources to support young people in creative self-expression.
